School bullying: a basis for juvenile delinquency in Bogotá

Abstract

Bullying is defined as aggression from one student to another who becomes a victim when he/she is subjected continuously and for a long time to violent or aggressive actions by one or more classmates (Olweus, 1986, p.2). This problem has affected the youth population in Colombia for decades and has become an object of study due to the different causes and consequences it has on the lives of the people involved, their families and other social environments.

Other factors of this situation have also been analysed which, without attention and control measures, can become more complex problems in the medium and long term, as is the case of young people who commit criminal acts.  Using quantitative methodology, we have analysed these behaviours in previously conducted studies as a basis for this article; in this sense, problems related to gangs, use and abuse of psychoactive substances, illegal carrying of weapons, among others; aspects that are evident in many school environments in our country and specifically in the city of Bogota, Colombia.
